Octavia the Octopus

Please Welcome Octavia the Octopus to the Blue Dinosaur Crochet collection! Octavia can be made in many different colours and is quiet cute when finished (if I don’t say so myself…).

What you will need:
3.5mm Crochet Hook
1 Skein of 4 Seasons Marvel in Dark Purple
1 Skein of 4 Seasons Marvel in White
Small amount of Black Yarn (for eyes)
Stitch Markers
Hobby fill/ Stuffing
Sewing Pins
Needle for sewing pieces together
Scissors

Abbreviations (US Terms):
MC – Magic Circle
SC – Single Crochet

sl st – Slip Stitch
SC INCR – Increase (two stitches in the same stitch)

This is the end to the head of the Octopus. The Tentacles will be continued on from here, please do not cut the yarn and continue on with the tentacles. Tentacles will attach to Octopus head by Sl St.

Tentacles:
Round 31) SC in next, Ch 50 + 1.
Round 32) SC in 2nd Ch from hook. SC in each until end. Sl St into next St on Octopus head. (50)
Round 33) (DO NOT CH) SC in each. SC INCR in last. (51)
Round 34) Ch 1, SC INCR in first st. SC in each until end. Sl st into next St on Octopus head. (52)
Round 35) (DO NOT CH) SC in each until end (52)
Round 36) Ch 1. SC DECR in first St. SC in each until end. Sl St into next St on Octopus head. (51)
Round 37) (DO NOT CH) SC in each. SC DECR over last 2 St’s.
Round 38) Ch 1, SC in each until end. Sl st into Octopus head.

Repeat Round 31 – 38, for a total of 8 tentacles. All Tentacles will be attached to head.

White Tentacles (for underneath purple):

Round 1) In a MC, SC 6.
Round 2) SC INCR. Repeat around (12)
Round 3) SC, SC INCR. Repeat around (18)
Round 4) SC 2, SC INCR. Repeat around (24)
Round 5) SC 2, SC INCR. Repeat around (32)
Round 6) SC 3, SC INCR. Repeat around (40).

Follow Tentacle pattern above. Instead of Sl St into Octopus head, Sl St into white base just created.

Advertisements

For assembly join the purple tentacles and white tentacles together with a SC. To do this place the purple head and tentacles on top of the white tentacles. Use a SC around both edges (in Purple) to join. When doing this you should be placing your crochet hook through both the white edge and the purple edge.
When Stuffing the head of the Octopus, ensure there is not to much stuffing in the neck. I have lightly stuffed the neck so that the head can droop a little.
